It's bigger, more powerful and comes with full-sized keys.
French firm Arturia has released the MiniFreak 49, a new edition of its six-voice hybrid synthesiser, replacing the original's 37 slim keys with a four-octave, full-sized, semi-weighted keybed.
The core architecture is the same as the previous MiniFreak, with two digital engines offering 30-plus oscillator modes, plus per-voice analogue filters and a 64-step sequencer. Upgrades include an XYZ touch matrix, audio-rate filter FM, voice panning and eight times the sample memory.
The new touch matrix is a pressure-sensitive surface that handles modulation routing, preset browsing and Freak Control performance functions in a single interface. Moving across the X and Y axes and pressing into Z allows several parameters to be shifted simultaneously; a Hold function locks a position so playing can continue without losing the transformation.
