Around 100 YSRCP leaders and workers join TDP in Visakhapatnam ahead of local body polls

Approximately 100 YSRCP leaders and workers in Visakhapatnam have defected to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) ahead of upcoming local body elections. The move was facilitated by MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao, who cited growing confidence in the current coalition government.
Why it matters
Political defections in the lead-up to local elections often signal shifting power dynamics and voter sentiment in regional Indian politics.
Around 100 leaders and workers of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) from Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Ward 6 joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in the presence of MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao at his camp office in MVP Colony here on Monday (October 12, 2026), according to a party press release.
The new entrants were from Kommadi, Amaravati Nagar, NTR Colony and Sairam Colony, among other areas in Ward 6. The inductions took place ahead of the local body elections.
