Arms cache found in Surigao del Sur

BUTUAN CITY – Peace and development troops of the Army’s 30th Infantry (Fight On) Battalion (30th IB) unearthed an arms cache at the vicinity of Signalnan area, Sitio Katarugan, Barangay Lobo, Cantilan, Surigao del Sur on Thursday, Sept. 3.
The arms stash included an M14 rifle, M1 Garand rifle, five 20-round capacity detachable box magazines, 32 rounds of .30 caliber ammunition, and 89 rounds of 7.62x51mm ammunition.
Lt. Col. Joe Patrick A. Martinez, chief of Public Affairs Office (PAO) of the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division (4th ID) said the found arms cache is expected to further contribute to the reduction of the remnants’ capability to conduct armed activities and reinforces the Philippine Army’s continuing efforts to secure communities and prevent the resurgence of armed conflict, and sustain the gains of peace in previously affected areas.
