At least 10 people, including the suspected gunman, were wounded in a mass shooting in downtown Tucson, Arizona, early Sunday after a shooter opened fire in a crowded entertainment district, police said.According to the Tucson Police Department, officers on routine foot patrol heard gunfire around 2 am local time and rushed to the scene. They encountered the suspect, issued "repeated commands," and then shot him, Reuters reported, citing Tucson Police department spokesperson Frank Magos.Police officers immediately rendered first aid to the suspect, who was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, Magos said during a media briefing near the scene.Before police arrived, nine other adults had been shot and were taken to hospitals. Many suffered gunshot wounds to their extremities and were reported to be in critical condition.
