The Andhra Pradesh Teachers Federation (APTF) State sub-committee has named its former State general secretary, P. Panduranga Varaprasada Rao, as its candidate for the Krishna–Guntur Teachers’ Legislative Council constituency election.
The decision was taken at a meeting held in Vijayawada on Sunday under the chairpersonship of State president Chennupati Manjula. The committee considered the views of the executive bodies and sub-committees of the erstwhile combined Krishna, Guntur and Eluru districts before finalising his candidature.
The committee members unanimously backed Mr. Varaprasada Rao, citing his nearly four decades of involvement in the teachers’ movement and his contributions to teachers’ welfare and the education sector. He has served as general secretary of the APTF Krishna district branch, a member of the State sub-committee and the State general secretary.
Ms. Manjula said his contributions extended beyond the teachers’ movement.
