Why it matters
Efficient public transport management is critical for handling large-scale seasonal migration during major Indian festivals.
The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has plans to operate 5,261 special buses during the Dasara festival to cater to the surge in passenger traffic within the State and from major cities such as Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai.
A statement issued by the APSRTC on Thursday said the special services would be operated in two phases — 3,207 buses from October 16 to 19, ahead of the festival and another 2,054 buses from October 20 to 25 for the return journey.
The arrangements are aimed at facilitating travel to native places and important pilgrim destinations during the festival season. The major festival days are Moola Nakshatram on October 16, Durgashtami on October 18, Maharnavami on October 19 and Vijayadasami on October 20.
