Apply ‘one nation, one tax’ principle on arecanut, says CAMPCO president
The CAMPCO president has urged the Union government to implement a 'one nation, one tax' policy for arecanut to reduce trade costs and improve market transparency. The cooperative also called for stricter monitoring of imports to protect domestic growers from price manipulation.

The Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Co-operative Ltd. (CAMPCO) on Thursday urged the Union government to apply the principle of ‘one nation, one tax’ on arecanut and strengthen the monitoring of arecanut imports to safeguard domestic growers.
Addressing presspersons, president of the inter-State cooperative of Karnataka and Kerala S.R. Satishchandra said that the mandi tax imposed by the Uttar Pradesh government on arecanut transactions increased the cost of inter-State trade. In addition, the Karnataka government should also do away with the APMC cess on arecanut and there should be only one tax for the produce in the country.
He said that the CAMPCO authorities met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and appealed to abolish mandi tax. “CAMPCO will continue to pursue policy measures aimed at ensuring a fair, transparent and stable market for domestic arecanut growers,” he said.
