Apple's India story is no longer just about iPhones, the next phase has started
Apple is diversifying its market presence in India by successfully expanding its Mac computer sales alongside its traditional iPhone dominance. Strategic pricing and the introduction of the MacBook Neo have helped the company capture a new segment of Indian consumers.
Why it matters
This shift indicates that India is maturing as a premium consumer electronics market, moving beyond entry-level smartphones to high-end computing hardware.
For years, Apple's quarterly earnings followed a familiar script in India. Tim Cook would mention "strong growth", analysts would point to iPhone sales, and the conversation would end there. This quarter felt different. Yes, Apple reported another record June quarter in India. Yes, the iPhone remained the company's biggest revenue generator globally, contributing nearly half of total revenue. But hidden inside the earnings call was a more important signal: India is gradually becoming a multi-product Apple market. That may sound obvious. It isn't. Apple CFO Kevan Parekh devoted unusual attention to the Mac business, saying Mac revenue hit a record $10.4 billion globally, up 29%, driven by the MacBook Neo and MacBook Pro. India wasn't merely name-checked.
