Appeal to remove Illegal parking of vehicles beneath flyover
Local residents and political representatives in Tirunelveli have submitted petitions to the Corporation regarding illegal parking beneath a flyover and poor infrastructure maintenance. The complaints highlight concerns over public safety and the obstruction of emergency services.
Why it matters
It reflects common urban governance challenges in Indian cities regarding infrastructure management and public accountability.
Appealing to the Corporation officials to take stringent action against a group of “influential people” parking their vehicles beneath the Thatchanallur flyover on Tirunelveli Junction – Madurai Road to hamper the movement of other vehicles, including ambulances and fire tenders, a petition was submitted during the weekly grievances redressal meeting held at the Corporation on Tuesday.
In her petition, Sangeetha Ramasamy of ‘We The Leaders’ organisation from Balaji Nagar in Thatchanallur said a few “influential individuals” of this area are parking illegally their vehicles, including cars beneath the flyover on the Tirunelveli Junction – Madurai Road for the past several months. Since this illegal parking of vehicles is obstructing the movement of other vehicles and the children walking around, the Corporation and the Department of Highways should take immediate action to remove these vehicles being parked there round the clock, particularly during night.
