Another sleeper bus on fire, lucky escape for 32 as driver decides to stop
Thirty-two passengers escaped safely after a sleeper bus caught fire on the Noida Expressway, thanks to the driver's quick decision to stop upon smelling smoke. This incident follows a recent fatal bus fire, highlighting the importance of driver response in emergency situations.
Why it matters
The contrast between this successful evacuation and a recent fatal tragedy underscores critical safety standards and emergency preparedness in public transportation.
Noida: Thirty-two passengers had a narrow escape on Tuesday evening when their sleeper AC bus burst into flames on Noida Expressway, barely two weeks after nine passengers were killed in a similar blaze in a sleeper vehicle on Yamuna Expressway. The way the drivers of both buses treated the sudden blaze made all the difference. On Tuesday evening, the driver of BSS Cool Cool, operated by Jamna Travels and bearing the registration BR28P-3433, smelt something burning, saw smoke coming out of the dashboard and stopped before the flames could trap those inside. On Sept 23, the driver and attendant of the bus headed for Mahoba in UP turned a deaf ear to repeated warnings from passengers about a strong acrid smell and continued to drive on Yamuna Expressway. By the time they stopped, flames had gripped the AC vehicle, trapping 35 passengers in the narrow aisle.
