Another hack in Latvia, more public data leaked
Latvian authorities report a data breach at the Consumer Rights Protection Centre (PTAC) involving the theft of contact information for business representatives and officials. Cybersecurity experts describe the attack as relatively minor and simple compared to previous incidents in the country.

The incident highlights ongoing cybersecurity vulnerabilities in public sector information systems and the increasing frequency of data leaks targeting government agencies.
Following on from successful recent attacks on Latvian State Forests (LVM) and the Road Transport Safety Directorate (CSDD), this time the target was the Consumer Rights Protection Centre (PTAC). "PTAC informs about a recently detected data security incident in one of the information systems under the control of PTAC. The affected information system is the "Remote Statistical Data Retrieval System" (ASDIS). ASDIS is a level C security class system, which is the lowest risk level of an information system. This system is used by the CRPC to ensure the supervision of licensed merchants and meets the minimum cybersecurity requirements set by the country," said PTAC. The hack is believed to have taken place two days ago on September 1st.
