Annamalai University employees stage sit-in to press for charter of demands
Faculty and staff at Annamalai University are staging a sit-in protest to demand unpaid pensions and service regularizations. The protest included a symbolic porridge-cooking demonstration to highlight the financial distress of retired and daily-wage employees.

The Joint Action Committee of faculty members, employees and pensioners of Annamalai University on Wednesday organised a symbolic porridge-cooking protest in front of the varsity’s administrative office in support of their charter of demands.
The members have been staging a sit-in protest in front of the office since August 19.
A spokesperson of the JAC said that pension was yet to be paid to more than 400 retired faculty members and employees for the past two years. The agitators also demanded regularisation of service of daily-wage employees, promotions for teaching and non-teaching staff, and the implementation of other long-pending demands.
