Irish actor Andrew Scott has spoken about the importance of celebrating life in the face of tragedy as his new film, Elsinore , opened the London Film Festival.
The Fleabag and Ripley star plays Scottish actor Ian Charleson in the biographical drama, which had its European premiere on Wednesday night.
Charleson, best known for his role in Chariots of Fire , was diagnosed with AIDS before taking on the title role in Hamlet at London's National Theatre in 1989.
Scott, who also produced the film, said he wanted to celebrate Charleson’s life rather than focus solely on his final months.
"I think the biggest thing for me was to understand that he was a man who had a great zest for life, and who was very funny and kind of charming and sexy and a wonderful person who was deeply loved," he told Reuters.
