Andhra Pradesh govt. offers support to telecom service providers to achieve 100% mobile connectivity

The Andhra Pradesh government is launching an initiative to achieve 100% mobile connectivity by providing land, subsidized power, and infrastructure support to telecom providers. This program aims to bridge the digital divide in rural and remote areas where network expansion was previously not commercially viable.
Why it matters
Universal mobile connectivity is essential for economic development and the delivery of digital citizen services in rural India.
Andhra Pradesh government has decided to provide suitable land without rental charges, subsidised power supply and viability gap support, wherever required, to facilitate the setting up of mobile towers in uncovered villages and habitations across the State.
The initiative, operationalised through orders issued by the Information Technology, Electronics and Communications Department, is aimed at achieving 100% mobile connectivity in the State and ensuring seamless access to citizen services.
Several rural and remote habitations remain outside reliable mobile coverage because of the limited commercial viability of establishing telecom infrastructure in low-density areas. Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) had represented to the government seeking support to expand their networks to such uncovered locations and offset the cost of land and power.
