Amma Unavagam workers stage protest demanding regularisation of job in Virudhunagar
Workers at Amma Unavagam in Virudhunagar staged a protest demanding the regularization of their jobs and the payment of promised, revised daily wages. The workers claim they have been underpaid for years despite government promises.

This highlights labor rights issues and the gap between government policy promises and the actual implementation of wage standards for contract workers.
Workers of Amma Unavagam, affiliated to the CITU, staged a protest here on Monday, demanding regularisation of their jobs.
Inaugurating the protest, CITU district general secretary (Rural Development Local Administration Department Employees) Balasubramanian said that Amma Unavagam was started in Tamil Nadu in March 2013.
After having worked for 12 to 13 years in the same job, the workers were being paid meagre daily wages of ₹250 to ₹340. “The wages differ from one Amma Unavagam to another. Though the daily wage fixed by the Virudhunagar District Collector is ₹578 with effect from April 2026, they have not been paid as per the order. However, even six months after it came into effect, the workers were not given the revised salary,” he said.
