AMMA row: Filmmaker Vinayan challenges Shwetha Menon to push for govt probe into ‘power group' in Malayalam cinema

Filmmaker Vinayan has challenged actor Shwetha Menon to push for a government investigation into a 'power group' within the Malayalam film industry. This follows recent discussions regarding the Hema Committee report on workplace issues for women in cinema.
Why it matters
The discourse highlights systemic accountability issues and the push for transparency within the Indian regional film industry.
Filmmaker Vinayan has asked whether actor Shwetha Menon is “ready to request” the government to resume the investigation into the Hema Committee report that probed the problems faced by women in Malayalam cinema.
In a social media post on Wednesday, Mr. Vinayan said he has come across reports that appeared online in which Ms. Menon had spoken against “a power group” in Malayalam cinema.
Ms. Menon, who had retracted her earlier decision to resign as president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), had issued a social media post on Tuesday claiming that her fight was against “the power group” in Malayalam cinema mentioned in the Hema Committee report. She had stated that she would not allow those facing such allegations to assume leadership roles in the actors’ body.
