Amid ‘persistent’ use of unapproved fuels by industries, CAQM directs expansion of cameras

The Commission for Air Quality Management has mandated the installation of additional PTZ cameras in NCR industries to monitor fuel consumption. This move aims to curb the persistent use of unapproved fuels through real-time remote surveillance.
Why it matters
Enhanced industrial monitoring is a critical step in addressing air pollution levels in the National Capital Region.
The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) on Tuesday issued an order mandating expansion of pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras at industries in the National Capital Region (NCR) to ensure comprehensive real-time monitoring of fuel consumption.
PTZ cameras can pan horizontally (from left to right), tilt vertically (up and down) and zoom.
“In view of the persistent use of unapproved fuels, the Commission has expanded the areas to be captured by PTZ cameras at industrial units to make the coverage comprehensive and for effective monitoring and compliance. Apart from the locations of PTZ cameras already prescribed by CPCB, the Commission has directed that industries shall now also install additional PTZ cameras by 31.10.2026, as per the following Standard Operating Procedure (SOP),” the CAQM said in a statement.
