Amid Lok Sabha logjam, Centre offers debate on NEET paper leak, says street protests ‘won’t help’

The Indian government has offered to hold a parliamentary debate regarding the NEET paper leak controversy, despite ongoing protests from the Opposition. The Opposition continues to demand the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, leading to repeated adjournments in the Lok Sabha.
Why it matters
The NEET paper leak is a significant national issue affecting millions of students, and the parliamentary deadlock reflects deep political tensions regarding accountability in the education sector.
Amid repeated disruptions, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday (July 22, 2026) told the Lok Sabha that the government is ready for a discussion on the NEET paper leak, even as Opposition parties insisted that Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resign over the controversy.
Opposition protests led to repeated adjournments of the House as soon as the proceedings started at 11 a.m. When the Lok Sabha reassembled at noon, Speaker Om Birla asked Mr. Rijiju to make a statement.
Congress leader K.C. Venugopal intervened, saying the Opposition’s demand went beyond a discussion and included Mr. Pradhan’s resignation.
