Amid bulk filing, ECI sets limit on Form 7 submissions
The Election Commission of India has imposed limits on the number of Form 7 applications an individual can submit to prevent the bulk deletion of voter names. This move follows reports of mass filings in several states, which have created administrative challenges.
Why it matters
This regulation is crucial for maintaining the integrity of electoral rolls and preventing voter disenfranchisement through mass deletion tactics.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday (October 9, 2026) capped the number of Form 7s a voter can submit to contain bulk applications seeking deletion of voter names during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in many States.
The maximum number of applications during the period of claims and objections an individual elector can file has been capped at 10, while applications during the continuous updation of electoral rolls by a voter has been fixed at five per month. These will apply to both online and physical forms.
Till now, there was no limit prescribed on the number of physical Form 7s a voter can file.
The Hindu has reported from Rajasthan, Gujarat, West Bengal, and Karnataka on the submission of bulk Form 7s in the name of BJP leaders.
