At the close of the eight-day Plenary Assembly for the Bishops of the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA), the Church leaders have appealed for partnership from all sectors, including Catholics, governments, political leaders, and people of goodwill, in accompanying the young people in the region.
Reading the statement on behalf of the Bishops on Sunday, July 26, Rt. Rev. Martin Mtumbua of Karonga Diocese, Malawi, stressed the need for different sectors of society to play their part in supporting youth as active partners in both Church and public life.
Addressing Catholics across the Eastern Africa region, the bishops urged the faithful to welcome young people as genuine partners in mission. They called for parishes, Small Christian Communities, and diocesan structures to be more open to youth voice and leadership, paired with steady, Christ-centered catechesis shaped by Catholic Social Teaching.
