Ambassadors visit Latvia's eastern border region

With the stated aim of "promoting foreign investment, attracting tourists and boosting exports of Latvian goods" – though also underlining the serious security challenges posed by the nearby aggressor states of Russia and Belarus – on 16th September 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organised its annual regional visit for heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Latvia, this time to the Latgale region. The aim of introducing the ambassadors to Latvia’s cultural and historical heritage, as well as investment and economic cooperation opportunities in the region, was complemented by the goal of emphasising the importance of strengthening Europe’s eastern flank and the contribution of Latvian authorities to reinforcing the border.
