'Amazing season': Canada's Camryn Rogers up for World Athletics top women's athlete for 2026

Canadian hammer thrower Camryn Rogers has been nominated for the World Athletics Women’s Athlete of the Year award following a record-breaking season. Rogers secured multiple gold medals and set new North American and Canadian records in 2026.
Why it matters
Recognizing top-tier athletic performance highlights the growth and competitiveness of track and field on the global stage.
For Camryn Rogers, it’s a sample of the Canadian’s 2026 achievements.
It was a banner season for the reigning Olympic and world champion, who was announced Tuesday by World Athletics as one of 10 women’s athlete of the year nominees, selected by an international panel of athletics experts.
A four-way vote, which closes Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. ET, will determine the final ranking. Three women’s finalists will be unveiled Nov. 10 and the winner announced Nov. 29 at the World Athletics Awards in Monaco.
Rogers, from Richmond, B.C., capped her season with her 11th win, throwing 77.09 metres at the Silesia Diamond League stop in Chorzow, Poland.
“This season has been amazing. I have had the best throw of my life, and to close the season with this throw is wonderful,” Rogers said on Aug. 23 in Poland.
