AM/NS India signs pact to upgrade four ITIs in Visakhapatnam cluster

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India has partnered with the Indian government to upgrade four Industrial Training Institutes in Visakhapatnam. The project is part of the broader PM-SETU scheme aimed at modernizing vocational training and improving student employability.
Why it matters
Public-private partnerships in vocational training are essential for bridging the skills gap in India's manufacturing sector.
ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has signed a Shareholders’ Agreement with the Union and Andhra Pradesh governments to upgrade four Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the Visakhapatnam cluster under the Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM-SETU) scheme.
A Special Purpose Vehicle will manage the upgrades. AM/NS India will hold 51% of the equity, and the Centre and the State government 24.5% each.
The cluster’s strategic investment plan, the first cleared by the National Steering Committee under the scheme, involves an approved investment of ₹200 crore.
Government ITI (Old), Kancharapalem, will be the main training centre. The other institutes are Government ITI (Girls), Industrial Estate, Visakhapatnam; Government ITI, Bobbili; and Government ITI, Narsipatnam. New Age Makers’ Institute of Technology, the company’s academic and technical partner, will help modernise facilities, introduce new trades and train instructors.
