Alverca Celebrate James’ First Nigeria Call-Up Ahead Of 2027 AFCON Qualifiers

Portuguese club Alverca have expressed pride after defender Isaac James received his first invitation to represent Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Nigeria, three-time African champions, will host Madagascar on September 25 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. Four days later, they will face Guinea-Bissau.
James was selected after an impressive run of form for Alverca, where he has started six matches in the ongoing 2026/2027 campaign.
Alverca announced the milestone on their official social media channels, celebrating the player’s historic achievement.
“Isaac James was called for the first time to represent the Nigerian National Team,” the club said.
“Our athlete was selected for the matches in the Qualifying Phase for the CAN 2027.” The call-up underscores the growing impact of Nigerian talent in European leagues as the Super Eagles assemble their squad for the upcoming continental qualifiers.
