Allow citizens enrolled up to July 15 to vote in local body polls, urges YSRCP

The YSRCP has requested the State Election Commissioner to include voters enrolled up to July 15, 2026, in the upcoming local body elections. The party argues that restricting the rolls to an earlier date unfairly disenfranchises eligible citizens.
Why it matters
Ensuring accurate and inclusive electoral rolls is fundamental to the integrity and legitimacy of democratic local governance.
YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) State general secretary Lella Appi Reddy wrote a letter to State Election Commissioner (SEC) Anil Chandra Punetha, requesting that the electoral rolls for the forthcoming local body elections include all eligible voters enrolled in the Election Commission of India’s (RCI) electoral rolls up to July 15, 2026, which was the stated date of commencement of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Andhra Pradesh, after which voter registration was frozen.
He observed that the ECI had clarified that the electoral rolls as on February 5, 2026, would be considered for these elections and restricting the rolls to that date would exclude citizens whose names were duly incorporated thereafter and up to July 15, 2026, despite their eligibility and inclusion in the ECI’s electoral rolls.
