Alleged violation of food safety norms: eatery in Keralam’s Kozhikode fined ₹1 lakh

A food establishment in Kozhikode, Kerala, was fined ₹1 lakh after authorities discovered unhygienic conditions during an inspection. The business, which supplied snacks to various local outlets, had its operations suspended for violating food safety standards.
Why it matters
Strict enforcement of food safety regulations is critical for public health, particularly in urban areas where mass-produced food is distributed to multiple vendors.
The Kozhikode Revenue Divisional Officer has imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh on a food-based establishment for allegedly manufacturing and distributing fried snacks in unhygienic conditions.
Food Safety officials recently found the premises, where around 15 workers were employed, severely unhygienic during an inspection. The establishment manufactures fried snacks and supplies them to hotels, bakeries, and cool bars in the city and surrounding areas. Its operations were subsequently suspended after officials found the premises unfit for food preparation.
Food Safety Officer (Kozhikode South Circle) Jithin Raj filed the case against the establishment for reportedly manufacturing and distributing food products under conditions considered hazardous to public health.
