The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) says it is aware of a reported incident involving two Air New Zealand pilots in the United States.
A former Air NZ pilot, speaking on condition of anonymity, said he had heard about an alleged altercation from several of the airline’s pilots. Word had spread “like wildfire” through the Air NZ community, he said.
The source said he understood the fracas started with the two pilots quarrelling during a service from Auckland to San Francisco earlier this month, before an alleged confrontation at their layover hotel.
According to flight records, two Air New Zealand services from San Francisco were cancelled on September 6 and 7. Passengers were told it was due to illness.
Air New Zealand twice declined to comment on the allegations, including questions about whether pilots had been stood down.
