Noted poet Savitha Nagabhushana has said poets across the globe are the same, and that they always stand for peace, love and humanity.

“Words like love, peace and humanity are synonymous with poetry, while its antonyms are war, unrest and frustration,” she said, after inaugurating a meeting of ghazal poets organised by the Karnataka Ghazal Academy in Shivamogga on Sunday.

Without poetry, no world can exist, she said, adding that ghazal was essentially a nivedane kavya — a poetry of devotion and offering, rooted in love. While the genre had long been popular in north Karnataka, events such as this were now helping it gain ground in the Malnad region as well, she said.
