All-island celebrations set to take place for August Craft Month

August Craft Month returns to Ireland for its fifth year, featuring over 600 events and 3,500 makers across the island. The initiative aims to promote traditional crafts and encourage hands-on creativity among the public.
Why it matters
It reflects a cultural resurgence in traditional craftsmanship and provides a community-focused alternative to digital consumption.
Returning for its fifth year, August Craft Month is set to bring an incredible line-up of creative workshops, demonstrations, markets and exhibitions - many of which will be free to the public.
With over 3,500 makers (more than triple last year's amount), and over 600 events taking place across the entire island of Ireland, this will be the largest annual celebration of craft on the island of Ireland.
Brought together by Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI) and Craft NI, the programme will showcase ceramics, jewellery-making, glass-making, woodturning, textile-making, and even instrument-making.
Mary Blanchfield, CEO of DCCI, told RTÉ Lifestyle that the event is a "call to action" for crafters and makers to make themselves known to their neighbours.
"This is for the general public," she explains. "It's for everybody - children, adults, someone who might have always wanted to throw a pot but never had the opportunity."
