Karnataka Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Eshwar B. Khandre on Tuesday said all 5,927 gram panchayats in the State will be renamed as “Mahatma Gandhi Gram Panchayat” by August 15.
Speaking after inaugurating the transfer counselling process for Panchayat Development Officers (PDOs), Secretaries and Accounts Assistants at the Department’s Commissionerate, Mr. Khandre said the move was in line with the announcement made in the State Budget for 2026-27. He said clear instructions had been issued to complete the renaming exercise before Independence Day.
