Algonquin Pharmasave expands compounding services to better tailor medications
Algonquin Pharmasave is expanding its compounding services to provide customized medication options for patients with specific health needs. The pharmacy is also increasing access to publicly-funded vaccines as part of an effort to address local healthcare practitioner shortages.

Expanding pharmacy services helps bridge gaps in primary care access, particularly in communities facing shortages of family doctors and nurse practitioners.
Whether it be due to allergies, sensitivities, preferences, or to avoid certain drug interactions, sometimes a person simply can't take the medication they need. But a compound can be the solution.
A compounded medication is a customized drug that's created by a pharmacist for individuals with specific needs. "We use the same ingredient, but we get a powder form of it, grind it down into a small particle size and put it into a deep penetrating cream," explains Kristie Chute, Pharmacist and Pharmacy Manager at Algonquin Pharmasave & Compounding Centre.
