Former South African allrounder Albie Morkel has been appointed assistant coach of Chennai Super Kings ahead of IPL 2027, joining the franchise's new coaching setup led by Zaheer Khan as they look to add to their five IPL titles. Morkel has been closely associated with the Super Kings since the inaugural IPL season in 2008, having represented the franchise until 2013. He played 92 matches for CSK, winning two IPL titles in 2010 and 2011, as well as the Champions League T20 in 2010. The 45-year-old was elevated to the role of head coach of Joburg Super Kings in SA20 in July this year, taking over from Stephen Fleming, who stepped down from the position.
