airBaltic files for Chapter 11 as Middle East fuel shock hits European aviation

Air Baltic Corporation AS filed voluntarily in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York on 14 September. The case, numbered 26-12188, was listed for its first motions before Judge Lisa Beckerman on Tuesday. The US bankruptcy court schedule confirms that the company is seeking permission to maintain its existing cash-management system and continue paying certain taxes, fees and non-US suppliers while the restructuring proceeds.

The filing does not mean that airBaltic has ceased trading. In a notice to passengers , the airline said flights and customer services were continuing as normal, existing tickets remained valid and passengers did not need to take any action.
