Air raid sirens were activated in Lublin, Poland, following reports of potential missile incursions during a Russian aerial assault on Ukraine. While authorities confirmed the threat of airstrikes, they did not verify if any missiles actually entered Polish airspace.
Why it matters
The incident reflects the heightened security risks for NATO member states bordering the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Air raid sirens sounded in Lublin, eastern Poland, amid reports that one or two missiles may have entered Polish airspace during a large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine.
The reports indicated that the missile or missiles may have crossed into Poland, but officials did not confirm that an incursion had taken place. Footage posted by several people captured air raid sirens sounding across the region.
The sirens later stopped, and no further alerts were reported.
Marcin Bubicz, a spokesman for the governor of Lublin province, told WP Wiadomości that authorities had received “credible and confirmed” information directly from Poland’s Government Security Center about a threat of airstrikes.
