Members of the All India Kisan Sangh (AIKS) on Monday staged a demonstration in Coimbatore demanding waiver of crop loans forwarded through cooperative banks.
The loans should be waived by the TVK Government in accordance with its poll promise, they said.
Farmers in Coimbatore district who had availed themselves of the loans have faced enormous setback due to the challenges of climate change, labour shortage, high wages, steep rise in cost of fertilizers, damage to crops caused by wild animals, water shortage, and rise in fuel costs, a petition submitted by AIKS functionaries to the authorities of Coimbatore District Central Cooperative Bank said.
