AIKKMS seeks immediate drought relief works in Ballari
The AIKKMS has petitioned the government to initiate drought relief measures in Ballari following inadequate rainfall. The organization is demanding loan waivers, employment guarantees, and compensation for crop losses.
Why it matters
This reflects the growing socio-economic pressure on rural communities during periods of extreme weather and the demand for government intervention.
The Ballari district committee of the All India Kisan Khet Majdoor Sangathan (AIKKMS) has urged the government to immediately commence drought relief works in the district, saying that farmers and rural agricultural workers are facing severe hardship owing to inadequate rainfall and drought-like conditions.
In a memorandum submitted to the authorities on Friday, the organisation said the slowdown in agricultural activities had reduced employment opportunities for rural people. This had made it difficult for families to meet basic needs and had created an adverse situation in which people were being forced to migrate in search of work, it said.
The organisation urged the government to immediately start drought relief works in affected areas of the district, increase the number of working days, and ensure continuous employment for rural households. It also sought payment of wages without delay.
