AIDWA in Coimbatore seeks closure of TASMAC bar near Sivanandapuram

The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), Coimbatore district committee, petitioned the District Collector on Monday seeking the closure of a TASMAC bar (1547) near the Sivanandapuram bus stop on Sathyamangalam Main Road in Coimbatore city.

The association said the bar was located in an area frequented by women and children and alleged that drunken men lying along the roadside had caused safety concerns.

It said several petitions and protests had been held seeking relocation of the bar, including representations submitted on November 22, 2025 and May 12, 2026. Though acknowledgements stating that action would be taken within 30 days had been received, no action had been taken so far, it said.

The association urged the administration to close the bar immediately and said continued inaction would force it to launch further protests.
