AIDSO condemns restrictions on protests at Jantar Mantar

The All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) has publicly condemned Delhi police for restricting protests at Jantar Mantar. The group argues that these measures infringe upon democratic rights and are intended to suppress public dissent.
Why it matters
The tension between public security measures and the right to peaceful protest is a fundamental issue in democratic governance.
The All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO), Dharwad district unit, has condemned the Delhi police’s reported restrictions on protests at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, alleging that the move infringes upon the democratic right to protest.
In a statement, AIDSO district secretary Shashikala Meti alleged that the restrictions were aimed at suppressing public movements, including the agitation against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. She also alleged that protesters attempting to reach Jantar Mantar had been detained since Saturday, October 10.
The organisation criticised the BJP-led Union government and the Delhi police over the restrictions, describing them as undemocratic.
