AIADMK to protest in Alanganallur condemning TVK MLA's comments on jallikattu
The AIADMK party has announced plans to hold a protest in Alanganallur on September 3 to condemn remarks made by TVK MLA M.V. Karuppaiah regarding jallikattu. The party claims the MLA's comments, which suggested the sport negatively impacts youth, are misguided.
Why it matters
Jallikattu is a culturally sensitive and politically charged issue in Tamil Nadu, often serving as a flashpoint for regional political discourse.
The AIADMK would stage an agitation to condemn the recent remarks reportedly made by TVK MLA M.V. Karuppaiah over jallikattu, party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami announced on Sunday. Mr. Karuppaiah, according to Mr. Palaniswami, had said jallikattu was "ruining the youth of Tamil Nadu."
In a statement, Mr. Palaniswami recalled the consistent efforts undertaken by the erstwhile AIADMK government to ensure that jallikattu could be organized without any legal hurdle. The agitation would be held in the jallikattu area at Alanganallur on September 3, he said.
