AIADMK functionary held in Tirupattur for illegal sand mining

The Kandali police arrested a 37-year-old AIADMK functionary in Tirupattur on Thursday for illegal sand mining in the Palar River.
The arrested person was identified as A. Srinivasan, a youth wing secretary of Kandali Panchayat Union of the AIADMK. He was married to S. Nandini, president of Kakangarai village panchayat that comes under Kandali panchayat union.
Initial inquiry revealed that Srinivasan was allegedly involved in illegal sand mining in the dry Palr River and surrounding irrigation tanks. Sand was mined illegally to supply private builders in the area at higher rates.
