AI researchers put out videos saying superintelligence is ‘exactly as dangerous as it sounds’

A group of AI researchers has released a series of interviews warning that superintelligent AI poses a significant existential risk to humanity. Experts from major labs like OpenAI and Google DeepMind express concerns about the lack of control over these systems and the potential for catastrophic outcomes.
Why it matters
The internal warnings from industry insiders highlight a growing divide and urgency regarding the safety and ethical implications of advanced AI development.
“The chance of human extinction is about a coin flip, in my view,” Geoffrey Irving, a former OpenAI and Google DeepMind employee, said in a new interview. It’s one of a dozen interviews with AI researchers, including current and former employees at OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic. Palisade Research, which says it’s a nonprofit studying AIs’ capabilities and motivations, collected and launched the interviews on frominside.ai.
