The Bharatanatyam performance 'Aham Pravahini' explores the emotional journey of a river through dance and music. While the choreography is visually rich, the review notes a lack of emotional depth in the narrative.
Why it matters
This highlights the intersection of traditional performing arts and contemporary thematic storytelling in Indian culture.
The poem Fear by Khalil Gibran begins with the line, “ It is said that before entering the sea, a river trembles with fear .“ This journey of the river and its emotions expressed in the poem inspired Shobana Balachandra to conceptualise and choreograph ‘Aham Pravahini‘ at Kalakshetra, Chennai. While Preeti Anand co-produced the show, the musical soundscape was conceived and scored by Embar Kannan.
The article is a standard arts review providing both praise and constructive criticism.
