AGRA: A 44-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his wife, who buried his body beneath the bathroom floor of their home and pretended he had gone missing for nearly 45 days before a routine police verification led to the crime being uncovered in Agra's Sikandra area.The accused, Ruby Sharma, has been taken into custody. The victim, Surendra Sharma, lived with his wife and their two daughters in Dahatora locality. A missing person's complaint had been registered at Sikandra police station on May 26.According to police, the couple had been married for around 16 years. On the day of the incident, Ruby allegedly sent their two daughters to the house of Surendra's elder brother before serving her husband kheer laced with sleeping pills.After Surendra lost consciousness, she allegedly strangled him to death, police sources said. The next morning, she is accused of digging a pit in the bathroom, burying the body and covering it with a cemented floor to conceal the crime.For the next 45 days, Ruby allegedly told relatives and neighbours that her husband had left home and feigned grief whenever anyone asked about him.The murder came to light when a police team visited the house for routine verification in connection with an earlier case involving Surendra. Officers noticed Ruby behaving nervously and calling her brother-in-law to the house.Already suspicious about his brother's disappearance and Ruby's conduct, the brother-in-law shared his concerns with police. During sustained questioning, Ruby allegedly confessed to the murder and revealed where the body had been buried.Police then broke open the bathroom floor, exhumed Surendra's body and sent it for postmortem examination.ACP Ameesha of Agra's Hariparwat Circle said Surendra's missing person report had been registered on May 26. During the investigation, police found that he had allegedly been killed by his wife, who buried his body beneath the bathroom floor before covering it with cement.The accused has been taken into custody and is being questioned.
