Agilisium aims to cut CS hire below 30%, eyes $500 mn revenue in next 5-7 years

Agilisium CEO Raj Babu plans to reduce the company's reliance on computer science graduates to under 30% of new hires. The firm is shifting toward recruiting domain experts from fields like biotechnology and medicine, training them to leverage AI for software development.
Why it matters
This strategy reflects a broader industry trend where AI tools lower the barrier to entry for software development, prioritizing domain expertise over traditional coding skills.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is prompting life sciences technology company Agilisium to overhaul its hiring strategy, with founder and CEO Raj Babu aiming to reduce computer science (CS) graduates to less than 30% of new recruits and bring in more professionals from biotechnology, microbiology, pharmacy and medicine.
The strategy rests on the belief that professionals with domain expertise in pharmaceutical science and clinical processes can be trained to use AI and develop software more easily than conventional programmers can acquire specialised knowledge of life sciences.
“I am pushing for computer science to be less than 30%,” Mr. Babu said during an interaction with journalists in Chennai on Monday. “We are hiring business people and we are training the business people to do the development and the programming.”
