After years of waiting, your robot vacuum can finally conquer the stairs alone

For years, robovacs have spun thoughtfully (and sometimes cluelessly) in circles on your living room floor. But as soon as there’s a step, let alone a flight of stairs, they stall like a cat at bath time. Anyone with more than one floor knows the drill: move the robot yourself, mourn a little for that lost sense of “autonomy and peace of mind.” Honestly — what’s the point of a robot butler that demands lifts?

That’s all set to change. Unveiled at IFA 2026, Europe’s biggest consumer electronics trade show (hello from Berlin!), Roborock has literally taken cleaning robots to the next level. The new Saros Rover isn’t your stereotypical, squat disc: it has articulated legs. You read that right — two arms ending in wheels that can independently adjust their height and tilt, giving the Rover the ability to scale uneven surfaces.
