After years in limbo, Kottayam skywalk gets a push

The long-pending skywalk project in Kottayam town is set for revival, with a high-level meeting chaired by Assembly Speaker Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan and attended by Transport Minister C.P. John on Wednesday deciding to move ahead with the project.

The meeting, attended by the Transport Secretary, District Collector, senior officials from the Public Works department (PWD), Kerala Road Safety Authority, KITCO and Revenue department, decided to convene another meeting at the Kottayam Collectorate on September 30 to finalise the project blueprint.

The move comes amid renewed efforts to revive the project, for which the Architectural Wing of the PWD has prepared a revised design following the Speaker’s directive. The United Democratic Front (UDF) government has already earmarked ₹15 crore for the project.
