After Amul row, Nandini milk parlours to come up in 30 locations outside metro stations and 90 other locations in GBA limits
The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) is set to open 120 Nandini milk parlours across Bengaluru, including 30 outside metro stations. This expansion follows public and political backlash against the entry of the Gujarat-based dairy brand Amul into the city's metro network.
Why it matters
The move highlights the intersection of regional identity, local dairy economics, and public infrastructure policy in India.
With a view to reach more people in the market through their dairy products, the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) will soon open 30 Nandini milk parlours in different locations outside metro stations and 90 different locations in the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) limits in Bengaluru.
A senior official of the KMF, said, “After several meetings with the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), we were given permission to open milk parlours in 30 different locations. These will be established outside metro stations and there will be no kiosk inside. The locations are yet to be finalised.”
One such parlour has opened at Sir. M. Visveswaraya Metro Station near Central College.
The official said, “Milk and paneer are two essential and daily commodities for people. Hence, locating parlours outside parks, metro stations, playgrounds, etc. will help people buy products as and when they need it.”
