Richard Masters, the chief executive of the Premier League, has admitted the verdict in Manchester City's financial charges case "has taken longer than expected". He also insisted he remains fully committed to keeping the proceedings confidential until a final decision is reached.
The case dates back three years. The Premier League charged the Sky Blues with breaching financial fair play rules across nine seasons, specifically the period from 2009 to 2018, during which the club lifted three Premier League titles. City's hierarchy have flatly denied every charge and rejected any suggestion of wrongdoing.
