After a delay of year and half, CMRL completes tunnel between Purasawalkam and Kellys

Chennai Metro Rail Limited has completed a tunnel between Purasawalkam and Kellys for the Phase 2 project after a year-and-a-half delay. The delay was caused by local opposition and technical challenges in building a shaft, but work on the downline track is scheduled to begin in September.

A combination of residents’ opposition and the protracted delay in building the shaft at Kellys caused a significant setback for tunnelling in this stretch.
