Africa Just Transition Network (AJTN) officially launched the NO NEW COAL AFRICA campaign on the opening day of the Niger Delta Climate Week.
NO NEW COAL AFRICA "Our Right to Life. Our Right to a Healthy Future." "Beyond Coal. Towards a Just Transition." The launch brought together AJTN Nigeria Chapter members, civil society organisations, community representatives, youth, and climate justice advocates who marched together in a united call to resist the development of new coal projects across Africa.
Coal is not a solution to Africa's energy needs. Across the continent, communities have already experienced the devastating impacts of coal - from polluted air and contaminated water to loss of livelihoods, displacement, and serious health challenges. As we work towards universal energy access, we must ensure that Africa does not repeat the mistakes of the past by investing in new coal infrastructure that threatens both people and the planet.
